RESIDENCE PERMIT IN TURKEY

Foreigners who wish to stay in Turkey longer than the visa-free period must apply for a residence permit in Turkey. As a property owner of a home in Turkey, it can be tempting to stay longer than that in Turkey's pleasant climate. Property owners in Turkey go through a simple process when applying for a residence permit in Turkey, and Corall Estate will of course assist you with this!

Apply for a residence permit in Turkey

Foreign nationals wishing to stay in Turkey for a longer period than the visa-free period need to apply for a residence permit to the Turkish Migration Board (Göç Idaresi). Here you can get a so-called "residence permit for foreign nationals" to live in Turkey longer than the visa-free period. Residence permits are granted for periods between 6 months and 2 years, and can be extended as many times as you want. The residence permit will be delivered to your address, which usually takes 1-3 months. As an owner of a home in Turkey, it is easier for you to obtain a residence permit in Turkey, compared to renting a home in Turkey.

Extension of residence permit

If the residence permit has expired, you have the right to stay in the country until the day of the interview with Göç Idaresi (Turkish Migration Board). After the interview, you will receive a document that allows you to stay in Turkey until you have received a decision on the extended residence permit, as well as travel out of the country for a maximum of 15 days.

Different types of residence permits in Turkey:

• For the first application for a residence permit for tourist purposes, a residence permit is granted for a maximum period of 6 months. Property owners are exempt from this rule.
• Short term residence permit, 6 months-2 years, which can be extended as many times as you want (for tourists, property owners, medical treatment, scientists)
• Residence permit for family
• Permanent residence permit (issued on an unlimited basis to those who have lived in Turkey for more than eight years)

Documents required for applying for a short-term residence permit in Turkey:

• Application form
• Valid health insurance (which must cover the duration of the intended residence permit)
• 4 biometric photos of the applicant (photos must not be older than 6 months)
• Passport (original and copy)
• Property owners in Turkey must bring the title deed of their property (TAPU)
• Evidence of financial strength
• Receipt proving payment of state tax for the application for residence permit
• If you live in a rental home with a rental agreement, a notary public-approved copy of the rental
agreement is required
• When applying for an extension - the existing residence permit card

For the first application for a residence permit for tourist purposes for those who entered Turkey after 20220210 (property owners are exempt from this rule):

• Apostille certificate of income (which proves that the person has an income equivalent at least 6,300 Turkish lira per month)
• For a spouse of someone who owns a property in Turkey, an apostilled marriage certificate or income certificate will be requested

* In individual cases, additional documents may be required.

Note!

As of 1/7-2022, no residence permit is granted to foreigners residing in Mahmutlar, Kargicak, Kestel and Avsallar.
